On to the plate

Experimenting with flavours, colours and style of food served at our place

I have a blog so that I can keep tabs of the different dishes I make. A blog is a great place to record the recipes I’ve tried, lessons learnt and notes about what to try or change next time.

I live in Christchurch, New Zealand. You know, the place that’s had several really bad earthquakes (4th September 2010, 22nd February 2011, 13th June 2011 and 23rd December 2011) and about 12,000 aftershocks. There’s been some good ones.

I struggle with understanding some of the conversions and ingredients of American websites I visit  (thank goodness for Google).  It’s almost a relief to try a recipe from a cook/baker in Australia or New Zealand.

I’ve got a horrendous sweet tooth that will not be tamed. So you’ll find my blog is heavily weighted (and around our waist lines) to desserts, cookies and cakes of every variety.

The majority of recipes on my blog are those I’ve found on other websites. Usually I’ve made a change here or there. Mostly because the ingredients we use in NZ is often different to what is available in the States. I’ve had a couple of successes with my own recipes.

While I’m very new to using a dSLR, and my photography is in it’s infancy (but hopefully will improve), the photos are my own and are not to be used without my permission. Feel free to contact me via the blog (or email address ontotheplate@gmail.com). I’d love it if you left a comment.

  2. Love your blog, especially your posts about cake decorating. 🙂

    • Thanks Ev. I’m not sure if it’s a phase or not, but for now I’m really enjoying the journey, despite things not always working out the way I hoped. Cheers.

  3. Hi Neets, Finally made it over to your blog and hoping to see more in the future. My blogging is not what it should be – when do you find the time !! Argh !! One day we shall get together and swap NZ recipes – Promise ! XX

    • Hi Kat, thanks for finding time to drop by. I’d love to swap some recipes. Most of the things I bake are not original to me however, but it’s still good to share some favourites. As for finding time, it’s not easy! I like to think I can write a blog post a week but it doesn’t always happen. Chat again soon 🙂

  4. Hi Anita
Not sure if you still there, but I was wondering whether you could share the Devils Choc Cake recipe you talk about in your blog.

    • Hi Jan, I’m so sorry. I’ve only just seen your comment. I’ve sent the recipe to a number of folks now. I don’t keep a list. Did I send it? If not, do you still want it? Thanks, Anita
